PLN of Choice

In the article, "Secrets of a White House Mom" what matters is changing the traditional role of the president's wife. She is not only the first lady, she also wants to be "first mom". This connects to what we are doing in class because our assignment is to change the world and Michelle Obama is doing the same, but starting in the White House. This also connects to me because I would also like to change the world in so many ways, but I know I have to start somewhere smaller than the White House. This also connects to the world because everyone can change the world if they try. What matters in the article, "Secrets of a White House Mom" is changing the traditional role of wife to the president.

In the video "Lost Generation" what matters is not focusing on the negative things and reversing our negative impact on the environment. This connects to me because I try to be as optimistic as I can and once the entire thing is being said backwards, that is how I feel about this world. This connects to the world because I believe everyone should be thinking about how to make a positive impact on society and the environment. We should be trying to make this world better. Clearly, what matters in the video "Lost Generation" is focusing on reversing our negative impact on society and the environment.

"I Remember When"

In the video "I Remember When", what matters is thinking of the things that used to be, and embracing the changes that we have made in the fields of technology. This connects to me because I remeber a lot of things that just seem so ancient now, just like buying CD's instead of buying a download off the internet. Everything used to be so simple, and now we have all this technology that helps us. This connects to the world because the entire world is changing, and improving. Everyone is touched by all this new technology being made. Not all change is bad. This change is very great. What matters in the video "I Remember When" is thinking of things that used to be, but also embracing the change that world has gone throuhg and is still going through.

Three Items

Dirt Bike
I have a dirt bike and it is a Honda CRF 150. It is red and black with a Three Zero Three Board Shop sticker on it, a Vans sticker, and a Thor sticker. My brother and I have personalized this bike. It is very dirty because, well it is a dirt bike and my brother and I went riding right after it rained. My brother and I have never washed our bikes and don’t plan on it. This bike means a lot to me because it was my dad’s, it was my brother’s, and now it is mine. Maybe once I grow too big for it, it will go to one of my sisters then to my younger brother. I am always happy when I ride this bike and riding it helps me show people that not only guys can ride them because I have met people who don’t think that girls can. I love riding with my family and I think this is one of the things that brings us together as a family.
Camera
My camera is a small, silver, digital, Nikon. This I have also personalized with stickers that come off “Cuties”, stickers that smell like pineapples in the shape of stars, and stickers that are just little stars. This is very important to me because when I am having a good time with friends or family, I can capture all those wonderful moments and keep them just as a way to remember those good times. I also just like to take pictures of random and ugly things to see if I can make them look better. When I am using my camera I feel like I can capture the beauty of anything.
My Room
My room is bright yellow with an orange trim and tie dye curtains. On my walls are many posters of The Beatles, The Ramones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Jim Morrison of the Doors, (basically my favorite bands) almost all of my art work, photography, and pictures out of magazines that I thought were interesting. I also like to put my pictures and everything on my ceiling. I have almost completely covered two of my walls with all the items I listed above. My room smells of incense because I am constantly lighting it. I also love using spray paint so I spray painted a school desk and put it in the corner of my room. I love being in my room because it is the thing that I can really call my own, I haven’t seen anything like it and that’s why it is so special to me. Whenever I am in my room I feel most like myself because I am surrounded by the stuff that makes me comfortable. I can forget about my worries and just stare at my walls for hours and it will keep me entertained because of all the pictures and everything else on them.

In the article from the Denver Post, "Lakewood Rescuers Pull Boy Out of Hole" what matters is being aware of your surroundings. A ten year old boy was pulled out of a water main hole after he fell in it while playing with his friend. This happened at 8753 West Cornell Avenue in Lakewood, Colorado. It is said that he fell from a height of about nine feet into the water hole. This connects to me because I think it is very important to be aware of your surroundings to stay safe and keep out of trouble. This connects to the world because everyone should be aware of their surroundings and should watch out for each other. What matters in the Denver Post article, "Lakewood Rescuers Pull Boy Out of Hole" is being aware of your surroundings.

PLN 15

In the Denver Post article, "Train Victim ID'd in Mesa County" what matters is not letting people who are intoxicated go off alone. A man was crushed by a freight train in Mesa County on Tuesday this week. They said that they could only identify him by his dental records. Before he was hit by the train, he was seen earlier at DJ's Roadhouse in Grand Junction and was believed as being intoxicated. This connects to me because I don't think anyone should be alone while intoxicated, they should have someone a little more responsible with them so they don't do anything that could get them in trouble or anything. This connects to the world because I think everyone should realize that sometimes alcohol can be a very dangerous thing and since it impairs the mind to make good decisions, you shouldn't let someone go off alone while under the influence. What matters in the Denver Post article "Train Victim ID'd in Mesa County" is not letting anyone go off alone while intoxicated.

In the article "Charges Weighed in Bicyclist's Death in Fort Collins", what matters is trying to figure out whether or not the driver of the car should be charged. A nine year old girl was hit by a sports utility vehicle when she was riding her bike on her way home from school. The girl, Erica Forney, died on Thanksgiving Day after she was in the hospital for two days. They say the driver could have been talking on her cell phone when she drifted into the bike lane. Prosecutors aren't sure whether to charge the driver or not because witnesses say the bicyclist wasn't wearing a helmet and going the wrong way in the bike lane. This connects to me because I don't think people should be allowed to be so distracted on their cell phones while driving. This connects to the world because everyone needs to be focused on their driving when they are behind the wheel. What matters in the article "Charges Weighed in Bicyclist's in Death in Fort Collins" is figuring out if the driver should be charged with the bicyclist's death.
